What you get

Grinding, not guessing

Ground below grade

We take the stump 4 to 6 inches under the surface so you can lay sod, seed, or plant right over it. No resprouting.

Clean site

Cleanup is included on every job. Keep the wood chips as free mulch, or add haul-away and we take them.

Roots too

Add root chasing to grind the surface roots spreading out from the stump, common on maples and elms.

Stump grinding, answered

What is the difference between grinding and stump removal?

Grinding chips the stump down to 4 to 6 inches below the surface and leaves the roots to decompose naturally. Full removal digs out the entire root ball, which costs two to three times more and tears up your yard. For nearly every homeowner, grinding is the right call.

How deep do you grind?

Standard is 4 to 6 inches below grade, deep enough for grass, sod, or a garden bed. If you plan to plant a new tree in the same spot or pour concrete, tell us and we grind deeper.

Will grass grow back over the spot?

Yes. Once the grindings are leveled and topped with soil, grass seed or sod takes hold within a few weeks in the North Texas growing season.

What if my stump is bigger than the calculator allows?

Stumps over about 36 inches, heritage hardwoods, and jobs with more than four stumps get a fast free quote instead of instant checkout, usually within 2 hours. Start on the tree removal page and pick the stump option.
